The Honduran series in the Yairi Masterworks line feature all-solid construction, with beautifully figured Honduran mahogany top, back, and sides. The mahogany neck is topped with an ebony fretboard and rosewood headstock plate. The nut and saddle are bone, with an ebony bridge and pegs. This particular Honduran mahogany was sourced by Mr. Yairi approximately 50 years ago, and has been wonderfully aged. Sonically speaking, the Honduran series are incredibly resonant, loud, and well balanced.
The FYM66HD is a folk/OM sized guitar, and with a smaller body than a dreadnought is relatively lightweight and very easy to play.
2024 is an exciting year as we introduce a new voicing and tonal response in our Honduran and Masterworks Series. This voicing is designed to widen the tonal palette, and to bring a more robust, clear bass response and a compelling openness to the guitar.
We call our new bracing system FST6. It is similar in shape and placement to our previous FST2 system, but the braces are lighter in weight. In the quest to strike the perfect balance between strength and vibration, FST6 delivers with a heightened richness we found impossible not to embrace.
Playing an instrument that instantly, almost intuitively reacts to your requests is a result we continually strive to achieve. We feel FST6 increases the connection with the player and responds effortlessly.

The Yairi factory is in the small town of Kani, in the hills north of Nagoya, Japan. Here they have been making guitars for 80 years. The late Kazuo Yairi was one of the finest and most successful luthiers of our time and helped design and make Alvarez-Yairi guitars for nearly 50 years. The pride within the factory is immediately evident. Floors are made of mahogany, some walls are rosewood tongue and groove, and furniture is hand carved by the luthiers. The amount of naturally seasoned tone wood is legendary and the production line marries time honored handmade craftsmanship with modern day design and processes. Every neck is spoke shaved by hand, braces are carved and tops are tuned to perfection. Hide glues are used throughout, and attention to detail and quality of the build is incredible. Alvarez Yairi guitars are beautifully presented, wonderful sounding, luthier-made instruments, which in our opinion are some of the finest guitars in today’s market.
